I'll hopefully get more opportunities to capture some more macro shots in the next few weeks and months but in the meantime sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite!
Whilst I don't yet have a dedicated macro lens I thought I'd share a very quick image that I captured yesterday using my Nikon 50mm lens and manual extension tubes. Shooting manual obviously requires a little bit more work but even without spending a fortune on kit you can get fairly good results in my opinion.

I'm keeping this one short and sweet as it's coming close to sleep time for me and it's been a long day. As always I was obeying the best tip for any budding photographer and the camera was at hand today when events unfolded in front of me. I had been out capturing some shots of the P+O ferry manoeuvring back alongside but had to focus my attentions elsewhere as you can see below. Thankfully no one was injured according to news reports. http://www.u.tv/news/Probe-into-Titanic-Quarter-flat-fire/9ecd0fb7-8a97-4717-9713-4761967ec0dd I also learnt a valuable lesson with regards to copyright today. A work colleague forwarded one of my images to someone he knew at Pacemaker Press and before I knew it the image was being used on the link above however I wasn't being credited with the work and didn't agree to the image being used as I was expecting some correspondence on the matter before any reproduction was carried out. You can see the rest of the images here on my facebook page.
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.383320291693186.93677.100000456548147& Some great short tips on how to hold your camera, custom settings and focus points for all you Nikon buffs. Well another weekend has passed and as usual it's been all too short. The thoughts of another early start and the week ahead is never a pleasing one but needs must and it could be worse given the terrible event that took place during the Bolton v Spurs FA Cup game. Best wishes to Fabrice Muamba.
Talking of football though I thought I'd try and brush up on the old action photography skills and given that it was a beautiful sunny day I captured some nice shots of the local football team Chimney Corner taking on Moyola Park in the IFA Championship Division 2. Unfortunately the lads ended up getting beat 4 - 2 but I managed to get plenty of practice. Initially shooting with standard 18-55mm for something different but then ended up switching to the 70-300mm lens for some tighter shots. Here's a couple of my favourites. If you haven't already got your hands on this months issue of N-Photo magazine then you should. I'm only twenty pages in and I've been out shooting some light trails inspired by the article featuring Andrew Whyte who specialises in Long Exposures. His work is absolutely amazing and I'd highly recommend checking his site out as well as picking up a copy of N-Photo.
http://www.longexposures.co.uk/ This is one of my images from first attempt at this style of photography. Great set of short and most importantly free tutorials covering some key aspects around Landscape photography. I find it difficult to embrace this genre of photography mainly because it is so time consuming but if that's not an issue for you then these are tips worth checking out. They cover the key areas from exposure to composition and even touch on the subject of hyperfocal distance???
To be honest that's something I haven't fully put in to practice as yet but you can get all sorts of free apps to take any hard work out of the calculations......that aside if you focus 1/3rd of the way into the subject then you probably won't go far wrong (that seems to the general consensus!) http://www.techradar.com/news/photography-video-capture/8-essential-landscape-photography-tutorials-1069997 If you're shooting with Nikon and haven't already got your hands on N-Photo magazine then you should. It's full of brilliant information as well as stunning images from Nikon Photographers. Here's a link on long exposure from the N-Photo team.
http://www.nphotomag.com/2012/03/09/how-to-use-a-long-exposure-to-remove-crowds/ GREAT ONE MINUTE TIP FROM ED GODDEN OF PRACTICAL PHOTOGRAPHY....MAYBE ONE DAY SOON I TOO WILL HAVE A D7000 TO HAVE THIS FUNCTIONALITY. Welcome to the new site where you'll see my recent images and also to the latest blog where I aim to post regular updates on primarily photography related news that I happen to discover on my internet travels. I'll not be posting all that boring stuff but links and images that are really useful to the everyday snapper like you and me.
